Richard Neuhaus threw what away, exactly?

I found an interesting article that gives a summary on the life of Richard Neuhaus.

I had to comment…

If Robert George, the author of this article, is to believed, and his evaluation of Mr. Neuhaus is as accurate as stated, then, and I say this with great surprise, I find myself in agreement with a Democrat for the first time in my life. I am happy to say it is only on the pro-life issue, however.
As to Neuhaus embracing Roman Catholicism from the Lutheran Christian tradition I would say Richard is now, fully and eternally, aware of the ramifications of his decision to reject the 5 Solas of Christianity in violation of his own “law”: “Wherever orthodoxy is optional, it sooner or later will be proscribed.” I pray he did not really believe what his latter hierarchy espouse.
I also do not stand in agreement to Richard’s broad brush-stroke of society with his naive understanding of life sanctity; There is no conflict between being Pro-Life and advocating a Divinely Authorized Corporal Punishment. Deadly Force is the necessary responsibility of both the individual and corporate conscience.
What I find remarkable was Richard’s apparent move toward sanity from the mentally decrepit stance of present day Democrats. How ANYONE can advocate the murder of the most helpless of society is beyond understanding. None can justify running with those who accept abortion, for any reason.
He seemed to be moving the right direction. Given another lifetime Richard may have even been a constitutionally conservative supporter of free markets. May we all learn from his mistakes.

Robert George thinks Richard Neuhaus threw away renown for the sanctity of life, but he is wrong. Richard rejected more than just the riches of this world to defend children, he rejected God’s saving grace for works righteousness. By embracing Roman Catholicism after having followed Luther’s example for so long Richard didn’t just throw away the world he threw away Jesus. God forgive him.
