Faithless in little, Faithless in much

What do you do when you cannot trust the police? What happens when those who are authorized to be the hand of Justice in the country are found to be corrupt over small matters? What does that do to the public trust?

He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.Luke 16:10, E.S.V.

In the above video from Fox News we learn about police officers who have taken the Law into their own hands in order to hide the very minor crime of a traffic accident one was responsible for.

The driver of the car the officer hit admitted to drinking before driving but the officer was still going to be in trouble for totaling her car. The charges have since been dropped against the driver, but the officers are in DEEP trouble; Not for the accident but for lying about it. Apparently their Dad never taught them to be honest. Apparently they considered themselves to be above the law. Apprently these thought it was ok to be “dishonest in a very little.”

These police officers also apparently had no qualms about lying in court and now every case they have testified for is being considered for review. These men have hurt the cause of Justice and brought distrust upon the legal system. I expect they will pay very, very dearly for their actions. And all this over  a traffic accident?

They were foolish to take their responsibility so lightly, and they weren’t too bright either, but there is a much more serious matter here…

Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.Romans 13:1

The principal is clear in this verse: God grants all authority; He places men in these positions and they answer to Him for their actions. The people who these men are sworn to protect, with their lives, trust them to be above reproach in all they do.

Police Officers are at the same trust level as Pastors! And when men breach that trust the citizenry have every right to call for the most severe judgment against them.

Our lives are in the hands of the police in the communities, like Los Angeles, where the Second Amendment has been ILLEGALLY restricted to the point where citizens cannot legally protect themselves from criminals; The common people must instead rely solely on the police to be their buffer against the unchecked heart of the rebellious.

So when the Police become criminals themselves we should be VERY angry.

So who is to blame for their actions?

These officers put the protection of their comrade above the Trust of the People; They considered themselves above the Law, above the citizens, above God Himself.  These men decided they were in a group all their own, and when the Police have such an “us against them” attitude the problem goes MUCH HIGHER than the actions of the individual officers themselves. Yes, these men are responsible for their own actions, but the department itself, the sergeants, lieutenants, captains, commanders, and especially the police chief, are all equally responsible for allowing, or likely contributing to, the fostering of such a gang attitude among those sworn to protect.

When officers believe they must protect their own over obedience to the Law these men have forgotten their task: To Serve and to Protect.

These men have forgotten, or never were taught, the peace of our society depends upon the trust they must work to keep. And a trust violated is a trust lost.

So what should now be done?

I don’t pretend to be an authority on much of anything, I’m just a regular Joe.  But I do know injustice when I see it. And this is what I think should be done. You can take my opinion for what it’s worth.

Retraining
Discipline must be re-established, or established rightly for the first time.
The Police must be reminded that they are NOT above the Law; Indeed they must hold to themselves to the Spirit of the Law: the keeping of the peace. The Police must be required to protect the peace above all, even at the expense of the Law, to protect society, to Honor God, and the people who gave them their authority, their trust.

Authority is given and must be taken away when betrayed. These officers usurped their authority, over such a small matter, and must be disciplined; Maybe even re-trained. I cannot make that call, but I think it is pretty obvious what must be done.

Authority is God given and the people determine, as God has ordained, who will be given that responsibility.
