There is a clear type of persecution (bias) you can expect from the hiring process…
The implication in this article by Dave Kerpen is clear: If you dare say anything an H.R. rep considers objectionable you could be passed by for hiring, even though such action may be ILLEGAL in the U.S.A. Yet the truth is clear, we all know what often happens: If the HR employee doesn’t get caught then how will anyone know why they passed on your resume? You may never know…
But I personally will not fret (do you hear me my soul?), I will not let the threat of persecution keep me from sharing the Gospel and speaking to the World from the only correct position, a Biblically informed conscience. BUT, I do have, and recommend for all Christians, a rule for any workplace that will save you from being a nuisance:
If I am not hired to preach the Gospel then I will just BE the Gospel, as the best employee they have ever seen.
So, I have a message for ANY H.R. personnel that would dare to not allow a candidate’s submittal for hire simply because of a Christian’s stance you found on an internet search:
God knows what you do
You may think you “got away with it” by not letting “such a homophobe” in your company, but your actions have not, and will not, be hidden from the Judgment of your Creator. Everything you do, say, look at and think God knows. And He will hold you accountable on the Day of Judgment, when every secret sin done in darkness will be exposed. (see www.HowWillYouDo.org)
“BUT Even this comment you are reading could get mY RESUME passed BY.” something whispers in the ear…
And why would any Christian have to fear what they say on the Internet being used against them? Don’t we have protections under the Law? Well, yes, yes we do, for now. Right now, any hiring process that requires an Internet search should only be looking for criminal records, and is never, EVER, to be used for illegal discrimination of ANY kind. But they are in jeopardy, because these Laws were written from a Biblical perspective; Godly laws will eventually be twisted from their original intent to PERSECUTE Christians by those who live for themselves. But that is not yet fully the case, though there are already some occurrences.
So does that mean I will not be wrongfully denied hiring for being a Christian? Well, no. Tribulations have been decreed. I have personally felt the discrimination of Religious bias in the workplace multiple times, and I have even lost employment as a result, but I was not destroyed. I have been falsely accused, but God still loves me. I am not afraid even to die for Him, to suffer for His Name’s sake, so what is a job? I have been knocked down, but God has always been My Rock and My Redeemer.
Suffering was promised, but how then shall we respond to persecutions?
“Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; through whom we also have our access by faith into this grace in which we stand. We rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were yet weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.”
Romans 5:1-6
Does that give any employer the right to pass you by because you are a Christian, because you have an opinion they disagree with? No, it definitely does not – EVER. So you have the right, for now, to object, and you have the right, for now, to protect yourself under the Law. But let’s be plain here, though we MUST expect persecution, that gives none the right to oppress you. Evil exists and shows itself eventually…
But we must be wise in our comments, let’s not forget what company we are in. I have not always been smart in the way I responded, but God is our Sovereign and He will know; Rest assured in Jesus. If you suffer rightly then you should not complain, but know we will, will, be arrested, abused, and even killed, as the Apostles were, for speaking the Name of Jesus; and that will be soon enough again. But those who commit these Sins will not be in the right to do so, even when they claim they are doing God a service to, as God promised WILL be the claim in these last days.
So then, brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, don’t be afraid, but rather be bold in your desire to bring God glory, as you seek the Lost and stand for The Only and Only Truth. For Jesus said of Himself:
IAM the Way, The Truth and The Life. No man comes to the father but by Me.
Paul sang in the prisons when he was arrested and Peter even SLEPT! The Apostle Peter was so relaxed an Angel had to whack him to get him up so he could be released! REJOICE when you suffer for God’s Name sake, and do not fret. If you are doing everything you know you should, you know if you are, then don’t be concerned if you are passed by. You may not know how many times, or when, you were discriminated against, but Jesus does and HE will repay:
Psalms 59:14-17 (NLT)
My enemies come out at night,
snarling like vicious dogs
as they prowl the streets.
They scavenge for food
but go to sleep unsatisfied.
But as for me, I will sing about your power.
Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love.
For you have been my refuge,
a place of safety when I am in distress.
O my Strength, to you I sing praises,
for you, O God, are my refuge,
the God who shows me unfailing love.
Amen!
