It’s like food for me to share my faith…I was so encouraged for him.
The new Constitutionally sound VoterID Law in Pennsylvania encouraged me to go get my Driver’s License renewed right away, to ensure I could vote in the coming Presidential Election. I rushed down to the Department of Motor Vehicles nearby little knowing this trip would be of eternal consequence, but I have learned to expect God to move as He Chooses…
I recently asked God to show me some good fishing holes in the area, so, when I saw the long line at our local D.M.V., I knew I had been shown by God to a readily available spot, for Saturday morning sharing of His Gospel.
Since I have been taking a friend to work Saturday mornings I am, conveniently, by myself, and available to preach the Gospel. And this Department of Motor Vehicles is, quite conveniently, nearby and open 30 minutes after my friend starts work. Conveniently, the experience I’ve garnered sharing my faith thousands of times, I have learned 30 minutes is a comfortable amount of time to preach the Gospel to a small crowd.
C O N V E N I E N T
I think you get the idea by now, just as I had this morning, God set up just what I had asked for. Or, rather, He had set me up to ask for just what He had made available for me. Or!… ugh!… Let’s not mind who did what when:
…to Yahweh be ALL the Glory!
So 40+ people got started reading the Million Dollar Bill (MDB) tracts from the www.LivingWaters.com Tract Store, as they waited for the doors to open. While I handed the tracts out I answered the commonly asked questions with the reply, this answers the Million Dollar Question. As I was alone I didn’t open air preach: I find it extremely problematic to preach by myself. So, as I also waited to transact my business, which also took 30 minutes, I struck up a conversation with a young grunge, timid looking fellow. But, after a few minutes trying to engage him, I realized he was not open, or he was just a Rabbit. So I left him considering his sins with the MDB tract in his hand before he bolted out the door screaming. I also gave him our ministry contact card with my email and cell phone number. I always do this whenever speaking to someone, in case they would rather talk privately later. The Ministry card also has a clear Gospel presentation on the back with our URL. I recommend every ministry have their own contact cards readily available.
So, once I looked around for the young man who had interrupted me while speaking to the grungy Rabbit, asking me for another MDB, I sat between him and a rebellious looking young man. There is a Harley Davidson Motorcycle dealer close by, so we often see bikers in the area. The Interrupter was a 17 year old man ready to go into the Marine Corps as a Recruit, waiting to get his very first driver’s permit.
We joked a little about that and then I swung to a lengthy Law and Gospel presentation, answering his questions as we talked. At one point the Rebel asked if he could listen in, which actually startled me: It’s funny how you never know who will “have ears to hear”.
There were a lot of people around us but NO ONE SPOKE, all listening intently to our conversation. One lady was actually leaning in from the front row. I tried, during that time, to ignore my falsely induced guilt at daring to speak about religion in public; The Rebel asked later me if I ever got flack from the DMV workers for speaking so openly about Jesus. It actually made me sad he felt so oppressed he felt the need to ask me that. How far we have fallen America!
There is a moment, in preaching the Gospel, when you can get so completely focused on who you are speaking to you forget to even blink; I totally lose myself in the discussion often, and all awareness of the growing blanket of around us. Initially you have to deal with the throat clenching fear of speaking about Jesus in public, but there is something about sharing the Truth, and getting the attention of those who can hear the conversation, that just makes you forget your fears. It’s like food for me to share my faith; It feels just like I’ve had a meal afterwards I am so satisfied by the experience, so encouraged to have had the chance again to share my Love for Jesus.
Tony-the-Marine-Corps-Recruit asked questions that demonstrated how seriously he was taking this talk we were having. I noticed he completely oblivious to those around him; I was so encouraged for him. And wow was I glad I didn’t start to cry from the Joy I was feeling. A Rebel and a Recruit may not have taken my weeping as a sign of strength. 🙂 The Rabbit might have though.
The Rebel told me he was Catholic but showed by his conversation that he wasn’t going to be one long, Again, I was glad to have held it together.
The Rabbit was considering his Sins, the Rebel was left to ponder what he needed to do to Honor Jesus more, and the Recruit was on his way home to Repent and Trust the Savior for the very first time. Tony came to the DMV to get his first driver’s permit and he left with the first time he could Repent.
I made sure Tony didn’t leave until I had “set the hook” as God had shown me how to do, “150,000 die every day Tony. That’s 2 people every second.” Today was his Day of Salvation; TODAY Tony would choose whom he would serve.
I don’t know if the Recruit repented and trusted in Jesus as LORD and Savior.
I don’t know if the Rebel stopped his rebelling against God.
I don’t know if the Rabbit stopped being so skittish and actually read the Gospel.
But there is ONE thing I know for sure:
More than forty people had heard a CLEAR Law and Gospel presentation, and many more had the Gospel thrust into their hands.
What they did with God’s Mercy is between them and Jesus.
You can do this Christian.
If you need help getting started give us a call, we can help you too…
…and we NEVER EVER charge.
Freely you have received, freely give.
God bless!
